Without the Tecmo games, football
would be a sad lot on the NES. The Tecmo Bowl series makes it all
worthwhile though. Play Action Football is pretty cool with the ability to
play 4 people together. Besides those games the football situation is
pathetic. Add to this, the fact that Mike Dikta's Big Play Football,
although never released, was also reviewed horribly in Nintendo Power.
While a football may be involved, Ten Yard Fight, is not even a football
game. However it is surprisingly fun as a strategy game, according to
Agent J with a strong dissenting opinion from Agent K!! Possibly Agent Js caveman upbringing has skewed his world.

Agent K's Rankings
- Tecmo Super Bowl - King of the mountain. Maybe the
best football game on any system. Full stat tracking for an entire
season. It rules.
- Tecmo Bowl - Would be king if not for its big
brother. No stat tracking, incomplete passes, fumbles, too few
plays, but still pretty darn good.
- NES Play Action Football - Slow and methodical, but quite
fun. You really have to get used to this one, and with no manual
it's hard to figure out.
- John
Elways
Quarterback -
This is an odd one. No running plays to be seen. Just bomb it.
- 10 Yard Fight - This game has serious flaws. This is
barely even a football game, in fact it's not. But Agent J actually
likes it. Is he crazy, probably.
- Touchdown Fever - Another terrible football game,
but what makes it worse it that it is by SNK. Oh how I was hoping
for a career mode like the one in Baseball Stars and oh how there
was none present.
Unranked: We
actually own these and will be including them soon!
- NFL
Football Looks awful so far.
- Cyberball
Robots playing football, what could be better, hmm or worse.

Agent J's Rankings
- Tecmo Super Bowl -Best football game for any system
in my humble opinion. All 28 NFL teams and pretty deep rosters.
- Tecmo Bowl - The original classic. Main negative-
only about 15 NFL teams and no subbing, but then again who would
ever take out Walter Payton?
Interesting note two versions of the game were released, one
with Eric Dickerson and one without.
- 10-Yard Fight - This is actually a game I play
every now and then. I know it isn't much of a football game but
since you score touchdowns and go for first downs there's nothing
else to call it. Needless to say there are no real teams or players
to speak of. But if you want to play a battle of the minds with your
friend, this one just may be for you.
- NES Play Action Football - Play Action Football wasn't that
much fun without the instruction manual. This game is kind of a
thinking man's Tecmo Bowl. A positive is the playbook and real NFL
players, the negative would be that the game is slower than Thomas
Hamilton.
- Touchdown Fever - It seems that SNK decided that
10-Yard fight was worth improving on because that is what they tried
to do. Unfortunately they did not. Once again, no NFL anywhere in
sight. The XFL wouldn't have even agreed to license this game...
Touchdown Fever is not worth getting because it is rare so the price
of it is a bit much. In fact, anything over a nickel would be
highway robbery...
- Mike
Ditkas Big Play Football
I understand why this one never came out. It sucks! No appearance by Da Coach sinks a
game struggling to stay afloat.
- John
Elways
Quarterback - An
interesting one... You apparently star as John Elway for every team.
You are not allowed to hand off because that is one thing the Broncos
never did. No real NFL teams or players either. It is mildly
entertaining but isn't worth buying unless you find it for under a
buck.
