Hockey Games Ranked

 

Unlike some of the sports games on the NES, all of the hockey games except Wayne Gretzky Hockey seem to be pretty darn good. Some excel in different areas but most are fun. However, with this being said there are only 4 for the system.  There is also an RPG style hockey game prototype that was never released called Hit the Ice which sounds crazy but interesting. 

 

Agent K's Rankings

  1. Pro Sports Hockey - Looks like an early version of the EA hockey titles. Real players, fatigue, penalties, tons of options, and a tournament.
  2. Ice Hockey - Choose the size of your players, each having different skills. Not too realistic but fun.
  3. Blades of Steel - Good graphics and smooth gameplay plus a tourney.
  4. Wayne Gretzky Hockey - Terrible in every way. Graphics, sound, and gameplay are all awful.

 

Agent J's Rankings

  1. Blades of Steel – This game featured real fights with the loser going to the penalty box.  I received this game from the Easter Bunny one year and every Easter since has been a letdown in comparison. 
  2. Pro Sports Hockey – A very cool hockey game with the real NHL players but missing some of the magic from the Genesis versions…
  3. Ice Hockey – A team full of skinny players is impossible to win with you say?  Well, then try and beat me.
  4. Wayne Gretzky Hockey – The Great One should one should be ashamed.
