Grade: A+ | Second Opinion: Agent J: A+ |
Reviewer: Agent K
Company: Tecmo
Rarity: Pretty Rare
Expertise: Won Super Bowl
This game is pretty much the best ever football game on any system. It keeps track of stats and has league leaders for most categories. The game play is great and the graphics are fine for a nintendo game. Although the computer is easy to beat at the beginning of the season, it gets tougher during the playoffs.
Graphics and Sound: Fine, but nothing special
The graphics are fine for a NES game. They certainly don't detract from the fun or gameplay in any way. However, it cuts to split screens after touchdowns and at other points and the graphics here are quite good. Also after winning the super bowl there are some other nice graphics.
Gameplay and Controls: Great
The controls are very responsive. There isn't a lot to mess up, just run and dive at people.
Fun?: Oh Yeah!
If you're a football fan this one is darn fun. Even if you don't love football you'll probably love this one. The playoffs are a nice challenge as well.
Challenge: Perfect
Due to the wide variety of teams you can choose the level that is right for you. If you're a beginner take the Bills until you learn the game and then once you get good you can one of the weaker teams. Plus as the season advances things get tougher and once the playoffs start you better be ready because the computer steps it up a notch.
Features: Many Cool Ones
In addition to stat tracking there are injuries. Just when you thought you were getting good down goes Neal Anderson for the third time. Also you can choose what plays go in your playbook. Are you a gimmick man or do you like to play it straight. Take your pick they're all there.
Replay: Tons
So you beat the game with the 49ers, try doing it with the Packers and their lack of defense. Done that? Try leading the league in rushing with the Bears backup running back. In 2 player mode the game has endless replay.
2 Player: Great
Nothing's more fun than beating your friends. Once you've mastered beating the computer, taking down your brother is a whole other challenge! Season mode can have as many players as you want, each controlling a different team. Get 20 of your friends together and play out the full season.
Online Manual?: No
I haven't seen this manual but TSR's site does have the one for Tecmo Bowl, the controls are pretty much the same.
Bottom Line: Buy this game
This game may be a little pricey, but it is well worth it. Very similiar to the original tecmo bowl but with full stat tracking capabilities.
